Chapter 15
Desperation overcame me again, as in our first meeting at the entrance of my house. He was badly injured, and a fracture has always been a complex problem for people of my species. I forced myself to endure it stoically and keep the terror in a very deep corner of my mind, because the panther had left my field of vision and I heard a scream, the voice of my little daughter screaming.
Her little voice, hoarse from a sore throat, cut the silent air like a knife.
My heart almost stopped.
“SASHA!” I screamed, and the blood from the internal wound rose to my throat; breathing became even more difficult. “MIRKO!”
I saw the silhouette of the panther go down the embankment, near the drain.
Before my brain could process the order, I was already up and running. My breath was leaving me much faster than I could catch it, and my heart was racing so fast that I didn’t care about jumping headlong to die. If you die, your children will be saved, I know I though
