Finally, Richie was also discharged and I was left alone in the ward.
When I finished reading the novels I had, I discovered that my only entertainment consisted of counting the minutes. Look at the clock, and do calculations. The minutes until the next visit from Hilda or her Uncle Wade, or to meet my children again, for the next walk down the hall, or else it was too early to make another call to Johanna to see how she was doing there in the United States. The visits helped keep me from getting in a bad mood, even the unexpected ones. Reading kept me busy, but not for long.
