Chapter 64
“Yes, maybe,” I answered slowly, with a perplexed tone. “But what is this sudden interest in the history of our people, anyway?”
“Grandpa said I should start studying. You know, for school.”
I raised myself up on one elbow, sliding Sasha onto her back into the space between her brother and me. She laughed out of pure joy, fell on her feet. She began to move up and down, babbling, jumping, until she found something more productive to do: throw herself at me and bite my shoulder. She was a very fierce girl.
“Wait, school?” I asked, confused.
“Well, grandpa told me that now it’s too late to enroll, but that I can enter next semester, and that he will make sure they give me a place. He told me he was going to talk to you. In the meantime, I have to read so I don’t fall behind. Didn’t grandpa talk to you about that?”
“No, he did not,” I answered, with a hidden growl.
“Surely he forgot.” My son shrugged his shoulders.
