Chapter 49

Belle’s POV

We were about to get into the car to drive to Alex’s house when he appeared from behind Carl’s house.

“Guys, I apologize for being late,” Alex said, panting.

“Where did you come from?” Carl asked, his eyebrows raised at Alex’s visible appearance.

“Oh, I’ve been in your back yard. I just fell asleep,” Alex explained, smiling as he shook the dust and weeds from his clothes.

“How come we can’t call you?” I asked and assisted him in removing the weeds from behind. But as I got closer, the slimy odor emanating from Alex did not escape my keen nose.

“Where is my phone? He-he-he, I misplaced it in the woods,” Alex responded.

“Alex, did you wash your hair before you came here? You smell like a dead fish,” I say as I walk away.

“Huh? What exactly are you saying? I take a bath before I come here, and another in the back of Carl’s house before I sleep,” Alex reasoned as he sniffed his body.
