Chapter 39
“Alpha, there’s nothing left of a body. It must be hidden somewhere, or… there’s nothing left,” Andrew spoke again as he walked toward Killian.
This time, Killian fell to the ground. Was he crying? His shoulders quaked as he cried silently, and Andrew froze where he stood, not daring to approach the grieving, pitiful Alpha.
I tried to move toward him. I crawled through the mud to reach him. My mate was in pain, and despite my constant fear and the overwhelming dread, I pushed on. I’d never seen him like this.
I wanted to comfort him. It was instinctual—the need to hold him in my arms and tell him everything would be okay. Even though I was injured, he came first. He always came first in my mind. No matter what he had done, somehow I still cared. I still loved him.
I moved my hands toward his head and stroked his wet, dark hair
