The walk toward the clearing was silent after that. Neither Claude nor I spoke a word. The council members loved Natalia because she could be easily swayed—because she was materialistic and selfish. I was the opposite. I was a small girl from a small pack in the middle of nowhere, a girl the King had fallen for, and somehow, no one knew how to handle me. I was unpredictable—a flaw in their perfectly laid-out plan.

It made me wonder what they were all planning, and why I had to be in the middle of it all.
