Ronan’s POV
“You are not going in there alone!” Ronan’s voice was firm, every syllable edged with warning as he looked down at me. “Don’t argue, Seris.”
“I am going in alone, Ronan.” I squared my shoulders and met his steely gaze. “He was my assailant, not yours.” I turned toward the imposing cell door. “Stop treating me like a child.”
Ronan sighed, then gently tipped my chin so I faced him. His thumb brushed along my jawline—a tender gesture that made my heart thud. “You are a child. My child.” He offered a small, affectionate smile. Mine answered in kind. “I’ll be right outside. Mind-link me the moment things go south.”
He pressed a soft kiss to my lips and stepped back. With a curt nod, he signaled the guard to unlock the massive door. The metal shifted with a protest—an ominous creak—and when it hit the wall on the other side, a harsh gust of air swept past me. I clenched my fists, took a deep breath, and stepped inside.
