“What’s happening?” Seris shrieked, her voice trembling as she pressed her hands against the counter for support. Her cheeks drained of color, and she stared down at herself in horror and confusion—her features etched with terror. I shared her bewilderment. Just moments after she inexplicably froze the glass of water before us, an even stranger phenomenon erupted: a blinding light radiated from her very skin.
The brilliance forced me to stagger back. Seris stood bathed in a luminous glow. Her skin—once marked by countless scars and imperfections I had memorized—was now flawless and radiant, as smooth and pure as a newborn’s.
