I knew as a child I could change the world; I should have been more specific. I can change my world. I knew in my heart I would never end up living in the inner city with dead affirmations and forgotten New Year's resolutions.
I paid attention in elementary, junior and senior high school. I always made good grades.
I constantly made the Honor Roll (and the Dean's List in college my entire college experience), yet I still ran wild in the streets, totting guns and selling dr*gs.
I was capping people that tried to rob me. I was known for taking over another dr*g d**ler's territory and clients after putting a bullet in his head when the sun set. I had a tattoo of a buzzard on my back.
I have vulture feathers tattooed on the corners of my eyelids. I was only fifteen years old at the time, looking back on it now saddened me.
