Phil thanked his luck for finding a parking space quick enough as he slid his car into the just-empty spot in front of the restaurant.

He sang these words in his head while walking into the place that smelled of pastries and fried chicken. 

Solana was a few feet ahead of him. He called out her name once they were inside.  

"Solana." 

She turned, and her face registered surprise and a friendly smile. Oh good, she doesn't hate me for halving her pay.

"What a surprise." He was now standing behind her in the queue, but she was facing him as they greeted each other. "I take it the new job is near here then?" 

She nodded. "Yes, it is. Just down the road by that junction."
