My mates were silent throughout the date we had with the children. Aside from when Aria tried to get Blue to carry her and when Chrys disturbed Fred for another bowl of ice cream, they kept to themselves. With their mental fence erected, I couldn't even hear their thoughts. They kept it hidden from me, so I wouldn't know what they were thinking. 

I didn't need to rack my head that much to know what they were thinking, though. I only needed to look at them to know they were mulling over my words. Like I knew they would.

Chris and her boyfriend arrived by 5 PM to take the kids. While my mates got the kids' bags ready because I told them they would spend three days with Chris, I took my best friend to the side.
