Chapter 41. Who’s That Beautiful Lady with You?

As she made her way to the office, she knew she was going to have to answer to Mr. Potter but she felt strangely elated at the way the mob had been handled.

“Is this how you propose to work here?” Elaina Reeds asked as soon as she came into the office. “Coming late to work?”

“I am very sorry,” she replied. “I was held up.”

“Of course, I can just imagine,” Miss Reeds said, making a funny face and her cohorts laughed merrily, enjoying Alexa’s discomfort. “You slept your way into this office, to a position you are not qualified to hold. So I can imagine what held you up. Did the man you hooked up with last night refuse to let you get up early or were you the one who was too tired out after over exerting yourself that you have to report late to work this morning?”

Alexa was shocked by her utterance and before she could control herself, her hand shot out to Elaina’s cheek and the sound of the slap she gave Miss Reeds was like thunder.
