Myles went back into his house and saw Patricia sitting in the only armchair in the room. He sat on a bench and faced her.

“Myles…”

“Patricia…” They both started simultaneously. Then they laughed, the tension breaking.

“You first!” Patricia said.

“Ladies first!” Myles protested.

“And this lady has already conceded the initiative to you!” she insisted, smiling.

“Patricia, you are my best friend. We grew up together and I have always confided in you,” Myles started, trying to choose his words carefully also as not to hurt her. “I have also confided in you that I have a mate and she is the main reason I have taken up residence in this place and that once she acknowledges me, I shall go away from here with her,” he said, pausing to drag in air. “Well that mate has come and she is Alexa. I hope you can accept her like you accepted me and the both of you can be friends because both of you are two of the three most important women in my life!”
