“And you, I heard about your mate,” I carefully change the subject. Gavin stops in his tracks. His face falls.

“I regret not treating her as I should, and now, she’s missing,” his voice is quiet and sad. I’m shocked he told me this so easily.

“Is it Apphia?” I ask, gauging his reaction. Gavin nods. My heart breaks for Apphia. Poor girl. She has been through so much since her mom died, and now, her mate has rejected her.
