Chapter 38. He Is Sick

Landon’s cries suddenly pierced the peaceful moment, causing Valerie to wince. He had detached himself from her breast, his tiny hands still grasping at the air in search of comfort. As she held him close, she felt the heat radiating off his feverish body.

“He feels warm,” Valerie murmured, worry lacing her voice as she pressed a hand to Landon’s forehead. “Something’s not right. I think he might be sick.”
