Book 1: Chapter 16

Maria quickly left the room to find Alejandro, Enzo's right-handed man feeling a mixture of relief and anxiety. Her suggestion had not been immediately dismissed, which was a good sign, but she knew that Enzo's moods could change like the wind, and nothing was certain until it was done.

She found Alejandro in the security room with five other men monitoring the various camera feeds that covered the estate. He looked up as she entered, his expression questioning.

"Mr. Saviano needs you," Maria said, her voice low. "He's in his office."

Alejandro nodded and stood up, following her back to Enzo's office. The hallways of the estate felt colder than usual, or perhaps it was just the weight of the situation that made it seem so. 

Maria's thoughts raced as they walked. She hoped her intervention would lead to a better outcome for Gabriella. 

They arrived back at the office, and Alejandro entered first, with Maria following behind.
