However, this time, as Chris’s hands roam over her skin, it isn’t the man from half a decade ago that she thinks of. It’s Zach.
Shaking her head to clear the thought, Lara heads straight to the bathroom. This isn’t the time to dwell on men. She needs to get her family out of here, and fast.
Half an hour later, Lara emerges from the bathroom, freshly bathed and dressed. She moves quickly, her mind focused on the task at hand. When she reaches the living room, she finds Carter, Chris, and the kids waiting for her.
She pauses in the doorway, taking a moment to look at them, really look at them. These are the people she’s fighting for. These are the people she would die for. Nothing—absolutely nothing—will happen to them if she can help it. With a newfound resolve, she straightens her shoulders and walks toward the door.
“Let’s go,” she says, her voice firm. The others follow suit, filing out of the house and into the waiting car.
