Chapter 235. A Promise in Peril

Carter, standing nearby, suppresses a laugh. Lara smiles, but the gesture is tinged with sadness. She almost cannot hide their displeasure at the fact that her kids have fully accepted Chris as their father. The lie cuts deep, and is like a wound that refuses to heal.

“We had to order pizza,” Zayn chips in, laughing as he takes another bite.

“I am sure Daddy was doing his best,” Lara adds, forcing out a smile. Inside, a different kind of knife-like pain gnaws at her. She can’t stand having to lie to her kids about something so important.
