Ashley drifted to the center of the small assembly, her composure unshaken as she let her gaze roam deliberately over the cluster of faces. One by one, she appraised each person with calm intensity until the surrounding chatter subsided into a gentle murmur under the force of her scrutiny. After a measured pause that left the air taut, she spoke in a low, even tone—just loud enough for Daniel to catch every word above the soft hum of conversation. “While we await the arrival of Noah’s companions,” she said, inclining her head toward him, “Daniel, I would like a few moments alone with you. Noah, would you kindly escort Elizabeth to the north gardens? The fresh snowfall has rendered the vista truly breathtaking.”
