I stayed by his side for a heartbeat longer, unwilling to let go. Then, steeling myself with every shred of will I had left, I rose unsteadily to my feet, eyes burning with tears and fierce determination. There was a mate to rescue, a father to avenge, and nothing would stop me—not even the love I’d just lost.
