Tears streamed unchecked down my dirt-smudged cheeks, tracing wet paths through the grit that clung to my skin. Daniel had just left to face our father’s rogues, and pain sharpened with every breath I took. My fingers trembled as I pressed the soaked rag against the jagged tear in my throat, wishing I could staunch the flow of blood that darkened the cloth.
The scent of blood was overwhelming—fierce, metallic, the smell of life slipping away. My Wolf recoiled at the sharpness, nose wrinkling, but I forced myself to breathe deeply and slow my heartbeat, praying I could hold on long enough for Daniel to win that brutal fight and come back to save me.
