It went quiet in the large room, and everyone stared at the councilman, trying to mentally process what the man had just said. The alpha then broke the silence as he started laughing.

He stood to his feet and started clapping too. “Nice one,” He said after his laughter and clapping had faded. Locking eyes with the man, he added, “I never took you as someone who would make jokes, but that was truly a good one.”

Everyone else was quiet, though; they all noticed that the councilman had not even cracked a smile, which meant that the man was more than serious about this.

“I’m not joking, Alpha Maddox,” Vance said in a monotone, locking eyes with the alpha. “Selena is my daughter. She even approached me about this a few weeks ago.”
