Chapter 20
Indeed, there was no treading lightly with him. A mere few lines of dialogue had been enough to make her fume with irritation. Just as he was about to offer a counter-argument, the pot of soup began to boil vigorously. She hurriedly turned down the heat. While she busied herself with seasonings, Raymond said:
“We’re even having a child together; calling me impulsive is hardly justified.”
He always had to win arguments, never knowing when to step back. And yet, he called her his future wife—a notion that felt fundamentally flawed.
“My sister is home!”
She jolted at the sound of the door unlocking, followed by her sister’s familiar voice. Normally, it would be inconsequential, but with Raymond here, being all touchy-feely, she feared what her sister might see.
In the soft glow of the kitchen, Caroline swiftly pushed him away.
“Let go! My sister is home.”
