The menu slips from Hermes’s hands, landing on the table with a loud thud. My eyes widen for a second, then I bite the inside of my cheek to stop a laugh from escaping.
“Are you okay?” I ask, reaching slightly to pick it up, but he waves me off, his jaw tight.
“I’m fine,” he mutters, voice low, almost rough. His fingers brush the table as he lifts it back into place.
But I know he’s far from fine, he’s not even close. And that’s how I know my plan is working.
Hermes Grande doesn’t care if some guy goes after my heart—that part he can brush off. But when they go for my body, when another man’s hands or eyes stray too close, that’s when it gets him. That’s why I deliberately asked Adrian to adjust my dress when Hermes wasn’t looking. Just to spite him.
I watch him now, his posture rigid, fighting to compose himself. Oh, he’s trying, but his silence tells me more than words ever could.
