Chapter 2

Katelyn’s POV

Fear slowly consumes me, as my mind won’t stop asking question after question. Will they like me? Are they a peaceful pack? Will they really let me stay?

Then my mind slowly turns to darker questions. Will they make me work like a slave? Shoot. Will they try to sexually assault me? NO! I’M STILL A VIRGIN! They can’t do that.

Shoot. I still haven’t had my first kiss. I have been waiting for my mate, but that won’t ever happen now. He has already claimed and mated with the alpha’s daughter from another pack. Oh, I have to stop thinking about this.

I’m sure that everything that I’m thinking about surely won’t happen. I need to have faith in the Moon Goddess.

Gus stops the car in front of an enormous house. No. This isn’t a house. It is a freaking mansion. A very huge mansion. What kind of pack is this?

I lean forward in my seat as my mouth drops open. You could probably fit all the buildings that my pack has in this mansion and still have room for more buildings from other packs.

A soft chuckle fills the vehicle. However, I can’t tear my eyes off the mansion. I can see more buildings behind it and to the side of it that are also big, but not as big as this main building.

Gus softly chimes, “It is a pretty big house. I guess I should have warned you.”

With my eyes still on the mansion, I slowly nod my head. I don’t even know what to say. What do you say to something like this?

Gus nudges my shoulder. “Come on. We have to get in there before the meal starts or those darn rascals will eat everything and leave us nothing.”

He opens the driver’s door and gets out. However, I’m still in a daze. I somehow manage to open the passenger door and get out of the vehicle, but my mouth doesn’t seem to want to work. I silently follow Gus to the mansion.

He opens the door and allows me to go first. I still don’t know where I’m going and I stop right inside the door as I mumble, “Thank you.”

Gus smiles and steps into the entryway as he closes the door behind him.

I think I have left my confidence in the car. However, I have never been in a situation like this before.

My hands begin to sweat and tremble. I hope everything is going to be all right.

Gus walks past me and further into the mansion. I slightly lower my head and follow right behind him. I don’t want to get lost in here. I don’t think I could ever find my way out.

Within a few steps, we walk into what looks like a living room, but it could also pass a game room with all the video game consoles, cartridges, and gaming chairs. Well, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to tell that they like playing video games.

A small smile quickly spreads across my face, but it quickly disappears as we walk further into the house as we get closer and closer to voices. Wait. Are they arguing about something? Shoot. Does this mean that they are a pack of warriors? My father once told me that packs who are born to be warriors often fight over the simplest things.

Would I fit in with a pack of warriors? Oh, I don’t know if this is a good idea or not.

I grab the hem of my shirt and begin to fidget with it.

Gus lightly pats my shoulder. “Brenda, calm down. We aren’t going to do anything to you. We are a peaceful pack. Granted, we are a secret and very well-hidden pack, but we are peaceful. I wouldn’t be surprised that you have never even heard of us before.”

I glance down the hallway towards the growing loud voices and slowly shake my head. “My father never mentioned anything about any packs in this area. I went to a human high school and college, so of course, they didn’t mention anything about any werewolves being here either.”

A small smile appears on Gus’ face. “What did you learn about this area in school?”

I think for a bit. What did I learn about this area? Was it good in farming? Think Katelyn. It isn’t that hard of a question.

Wait! I remember!

I suddenly pop my head up and chime, “Business. This area has some of the biggest and most powerful companies in the country. The teachers also told us they were all human businesses.”

Gus chuckles and shakes his head. “Well, you are partially right. We have some of the biggest and most powerful companies in the country located in this area, but those big companies are all owned and operated by werewolves. Our alpha, Wyatt, along with the previous alpha, Wyatt’s father, own and run those companies.”

I tilt my head and ask, “Then why are some of the pack working elsewhere, like you are working as a bus driver?”

Gus pats my arm a little harder. “Not all of us are cut out for working in an office. Plus, I have an alternative reason for being a bus driver.”

An alternative reason. What is it?

Confused, I mumble, “What?”

He looks forward towards a large set of double doors and chimes, “You can call me the gate keeper.”

The gate keeper? What is that supposed to mean?

Before I ask, Gus strides forward and grabs the door handle. “We are here. Now the younger ones can be a little rowdy, so don’t be surprised.”

I nod my head. “Okay.”

Gus pulls open the door and the loud noise instantly stops, and the room becomes completely quiet.

This is it.

Gus steps into the dining hall. I hesitate for a moment and take a deep breath.

After a few moments, I tentatively step into the dining hall and slowly scan the room. Dang. That is a lot of werewolves. It would take at least three of my pack to equal the number of werewolves in this room right now.

My knees wobble as I take a few small steps and get closer to Gus. He is the only person who I know, and he has been so kind to me.

Gus clears his throat and announces, “Everyone, this is Brenda. I don’t need to tell you much. Most of you can tell already, but for the ones who can’t yet, I will tell you she has had to leave her pack.”

Before Gus can continue, a cute guy steps forward and begins walking towards us. “I have agreed to let Brenda stay here, so please make her feel welcome. Also, since she is one of the few omegas that I’ve met, she will stay with me to make sure that no one does anything to harm her. Since I have a mate bond, she has nothing to worry about with me. Do you understand?”

Everyone in the room instantly yells, “Yes, Alpha.”

Did I call him cute? He isn’t just cute, but he is also beautiful. I thought my friend, Alex, is the only beautiful guy, but I’m mistaken. Wyatt is stunning, and he isn’t even my mate. Well, Alex isn’t my mate either and I think he is beautiful, too.

Wyatt smiles at me as he strides towards me. If Gus hadn’t told me he is a beta, I would believe that he is truly an alpha, albeit a short alpha, but I would still think that he is an alpha.

I couldn’t help but to wish that I could be a little like him.

People only have to take one look at me, and they immediately know that I’m an omega. I wouldn’t know what I will do if people look at me and think that I’m an alpha. Oh, that is asking for too much, but maybe I can get him to help me look like a beta instead. I definitely think that I can get the confidence to give off a beta aura.

As I’m lost in thought, Wyatt marches up to me and engulfs me in a hug.

This is so different than my pack. I have friends, yes, but to get such a warm welcome is something new to me. My pack reserves greetings like this for a select few, and I’m not one of them even though my older brother is part of that select few. I’m sure that it is because he will be the pack’s next beta and following in our dad’s footsteps. I don’t follow in anyone’s footsteps, especially now.

Ugh… I need to stop thinking about this.

I tentatively wrap my arms around Wyatt and whisper, “Thank you, alpha Wyatt.”

Wyatt hugs me even tighter and whispers, “Not a problem. Our pack sticks together and welcomes omegas with open arms. There aren’t too many left.”

Well, he has a point. I, however, want to play it safe and make sure not to make waves. If it helps that the alpha is willing to protect me, then I’m not going to argue or disagree. Plus, I can’t explain it, but I already feel like I’m part of the family. I don’t know how, but I do.

Wyatt lets go of me and takes a step back as he chimes, “Brenda, you will sit at the head table with me. Are you hungry?”

Before I can even respond, my stomach answers for me with a loud growl, which instantly has Wyatt and Gus chuckling. I quickly put my hand on my stomach and lower my head, as I mumble, “Sorry.”

Wyatt shakes his head and chimes, “Don’t be. Now, let’s get you fed, before your stomach starts talking even louder.”

I simply nod my head and follow him as he turns around and heads towards his table at the end of the room. Oh, I can’t believe that my stomach growled like that. This is so embarrassing.
