The moment I could walk without feeling like my stitches were pulling apart, like every step wasn’t going to tear me open again, I left my hospital room. I couldn’t stay there for another second. Sitting around, waiting for answers, waiting for someone else to tell me what was going on, had never been my style. That wasn’t who I was. If I wanted to understand Evelyn’s true connection to Davis, if I wanted to know what really tied them together, I had to start digging myself. I was supposed to meet up with Susan last week.
