I had expected today to be exhausting, I knew that walking in, but I hadn’t expected to be sitting in a courtroom, stuck in this hard chair, waiting for a woman who lived for drama, who thrived on making an entrance.
The judge was already irritated, visibly so, tapping his fingers on the desk impatiently, each tap echoing in the quiet room like a countdown. My lawyer checked his watch for the third time in ten minutes, glancing down and sighing under his breath. The opposing lawyer barely masked his frustration, shifting through papers with sharp movements as if the delay was a personal offense against him, against his entire schedule.
