“Are you… Are you going to break up with me?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. And I knew that wasn’t the right word, but I just couldn’t bring myself to utter the word ‘rejection’. The thought of it weighed brutally on my tongue that it felt hard to actually say it with my mouth.

So I put it simply. In a way that should hurt less.
