They arrived at the palace in the same place they had left, in the throne room. Leal bowed and withdrew, but Thomas remained there. Moses soon deduced that he wanted to speak to him alone.

"You can say what you want, Thomás. There is no one else here."

"I want to ask you to keep my mother's survival a secret."

"I need to get Demy out of detention, what reason would I give?"

"Tell her I interceded for her. She'll believe it and everyone will start treating me like a good person again."
