Maddox stared at his phone and groaned to see his attorney’s name flashing on the screen. Why did he have to call him at the wrong time? This had to be important, or Mr. Harold would never have called him repeatedly. He had been avoiding the mess he had created in Vegas, but how long could he escape? His family members, especially his mother, had been driving him crazy. He knew he had been escaping his duties, but what else could he do?
He couldn’t push Iris into the eye of the storm. She was too innocent to face his family, especially someone as cunning as Lucille. When Cassandra had failed, how could Iris withstand the cunning woman?
“I think you should accept the call, Maddox.” Disappointment was evident on her face, but she tried to hide it. Yet Maddox could see through her fake façade and read her like an open book.
