Chapter 8. The Judgment Stone
Ronan's POV
Two posts. Two people. A plan built for one.
I had forty minutes to fix it.
"Who's the second?" I asked.
"Couldn't see faces," Brenna said. "Small. Thin. Maybe a girl."
June made a sound beside me, very quiet. I looked at her. Her face had gone the color of old snow.
"Nell," she said. "If it's a girl, it's Nell. She scrubbed the stairs with me for six years. She's the only one who ever talked to me." Her hands curled into fists in the silver. "Bram knows that."
"Then he isn't punishing a cook," I said. "He's baiting a hook."
And I watched her face while I said it. Because if she was Bram's, this was the moment the hook had been built for. One more prisoner. One more reason for me to send more wolves.
She didn't ask for more wolves.
"Then we don't bite," she said.
