I’m such an idiot. Why on earth did I blurt that out?

God, damn it! F—k! My own words echo in my skull like a relentless drumbeat. Why did I say that to her?

“Now that I heard you say that, you may leave,” she’d replied, cool and steady. “I’m doing this project with or without you.”

Why on earth did I let her walk away like that?

Ever since our massive fight yesterday, Maya and I haven’t exchanged a single personal word. Even our morning banter at the office felt hollow and mechanical, as if I were talking to some random colleague instead of my wife. I hated it. She, on the other hand, never brought up the argument. She remained perfectly professional, the epitome of composure—exactly the woman I fell in love with.

I didn’t come home last night because I couldn’t face her. I got so furious when she challenged my proposal. Deep down, I knew she would object—it wasn’t her fault. She was simply pointing out facts.
