Chapter 22. Secret and Doubts

Valerie raised her brows, confused. Why would the President ask her who she was conversing with over the phone? Is that part of her work in the mansion? Should he invade her privacy? Plenty of thoughts kept running through her mind.

Ethan shook his head, and scoffed. “I just asked you who it was you were speaking with”.

“Uhm… it's a friend of mine” Valerie managed to say. Ethan turned his gaze at her immediately. It was obvious he was in doubt. His facial expression showed it all.

“A friend? A friend that you miss so much, isn't that too much for a friend?” The President smiled dryly, and she turned her gaze away.

After a few minutes of silence between them, Valerie broke the silence. “I'll retire to bed, Sir. I'm glad you liked the food”.

With that, she walked out of the bedroom and shut the door behind. Heaving a sigh of relief, she headed towards the servant's quarters. Then she thought of Nicole again, and giggled.
