Chapter 35

In the early hours of the afternoon, Lucy's car finally drove into the compound. Cage watched her from the window as she slowly made her way into the living room. He went downstairs and met her hugging her mother and sobbing on her shoulder.

“How did it go?” Mrs Richards whispered.

“I just want to take a shower.” Lucy sniffed, her voice was soft and faint. She looked generally weak and Cage was left wondering what happened.

“Don't think about it too much, it's actually nothing. At least now you're assured that you're losing absolutely nothing.” Mrs Richards gave her daughter a pat on the back before letting her go upstairs.

Lucy ran into Cage on the staircase and froze. She stared at him with her eyes wide open like she had just seen a ghost. Her cheeks flushed and she had no idea what to say to him.

“What happened? Are you okay?” Cage broke the silence.

“I thought you didn't care anymore?” Lucy retorted.
