Chapter 72
Two days later, Adam looked at the still-sleeping Kaytly, and his heart was filled with many doubts. She had been exceptionally calm over the past two days, except for occasionally humming a few unrelated words. But when facing him, she remained silent and reserved.
At night, before going to bed, she wouldn’t instinctively move closer to him, nor would she curl up in his arms. Instead, she would cry in her sleep, with tears falling silently, sounding like the whimpering of an injured kitten. But she would transform into a strong and cold Kaytly as soon as she woke.
Her lack of resistance towards him made Adam feel uneasy. He had a vague suspicion that something might happen.
After changing his clothes, Adam walked over to the bed and gazed affectionately at her flushed face. He bent down and gently kissed her forehead.
In his heart, he silently said, “Kaytly, I’m sorry. Wait until I finish dealing with this investment project, and I will treat you well.”
