Chapter 205. Fated Mates

I find my mom out in the garden. I had a feeling she’d be here, surrounded by petals and green plants–things that keep her grounded to the nature shifters crave. She’s kneeling, her fingers deftly pulling up weeds–or something. She straightens and lifts her head as I approach, reveling in her smile.
“When did you get here?” she asks, wiping her hands on her apron.
I don’t ask why she’s kneeling in the dirt, surrounded by fog. I also don’t mention that she could easily have the maids tend to her garden–which is full of flowers and herbs.
This has become her hobby, especially during the rare moments of warm sunlight that breaks through the fog.
“A few minutes ago,” I answer, watching as she takes off her apron and hangs it over her arm. I squint at the sky, noticing the rain clouds moving in.
She follows my gaze and sighs, clicking her tongue. “Another rainy day, I’m afraid. Soon, it’ll be snow.
