Alma and Lowe speak in quiet tones in the foyer while he helps her into her thick coat. The usual, ceaseless sprinkle of rain has finally turned to sleet–a vicious mix of freezing rain and the first hints of snow that’s going to make the village an icy mess when day turns to night.
Lowe pushes a hat over Alma’s thick hair, and she smiles lovingly up at him, her cheeks burning a pale pink. Real love shines behind the vampire’s eyes as she takes his hand, and he leads her through the front door into the storm.
Lowe is lucky. Alma’s love for him radiates from her like it’s her aura, her reason for living. He found his mate in the form of a vampire and is… okay with it. Accepting of it, and everything that comes with it… like his own mortality.
