Chapter 204. An Ally

“What are you doing here? I thought you returned to Scarlett Thunder?” Michael gives Cole a skeptical look, but Cole rolls his eyes, crossing his arms over his broad chest. 

His dark hair catches the light and gleams as he replies, “My mother thought it would be best to return a few days before the big party to get to know my fiancee,” Cole grumbles, tapping his fingers on his elbow as he stares down at me and shakes his head slightly from side to side.

I feel the sudden urge to shrink against Michael under his gaze, but I keep my feet planted firmly on the ground.

“You’re looking well.” The prince I hardly know gives me a sly smile.

I’m not sure what to say, so I say nothing, leaning further against Michael instead. Cole smirks, rolling his eyes back to Michael with an arch of his brow. 

Michael narrows his eyes, having some internal conversation with Cole, then nudges me forward. 

Over his shoulder, he
