Chapter 66. A Jealous, Possessive Man

We made dinner. Well, Axel did.
He said he wasn’t so good with cooking, but he moved around the kitchen like a pro, a heavenly aroma filling the house.
I sat at the counter and watched him. He was shirtless, so my eyes were fixed on his naked upper body, watching his muscles flex as he moved, sweat dripping down his back, between his spine, and I wanted to lick it off.
“Sweetheart, you’ll burn a hole into my back with that heated gaze of yours,” he said without looking at me.
I looked away, my cheeks burning. I focused on something else, looking at anything but him and his mouth-watering body. And then a question occurred to me.
“Axel, how’s my mother?” I asked, my voice barely audible.
“I don’t know, sweetheart. I haven’t set my eyes on her for a long time. But knowing Silas, I think you should really check on her.”
I finally looked at him again and his back was still facing me. “What do you mean by that?”
