I was met with profound silence. But I wasn’t going to give up. My eyes kept darting in all directions, trying to catch a glimpse of him and understand his motive. It was quite apparent to me that he must have been sent by Ruby or Noah. So I tried to mock.

“Did Ruby send you? Is she so blinded that she has me attacked when I’m out with a child?”

More silence followed but I sensed a slight movement to my right.

Pushing myself I raised my leg and kicked with full force. My jogger collided with his face and he let out a yelp while stumbling backwards. I had finally made contact, making me bold to launch another attack.

But he had shifted from the position. My movements were lethargic as the silver poison spread through my body, profoundly slowing me down.

He melded with the shadows, his feet made no noise on the ground as if he wasn’t human but a ghost.

I launched several more kicks and punches; some landed, others he dodged.
