Chapter 18. Small Victories
"Okay, I have so many ideas," Connie beamed, excitedly ticking off options on her fingers: "There's the classic A-line, then maybe something with layers of tulle, or what about a sequined mermaid gown?" Her enthusiasm had made me nervous about how long we would be staying and what this was all going to cost.
As she nodded for the girl assisting her to follow her into the room, I held my hand up to stop the young assistant, who couldn't have been more than eighteen. She looked dead on her feet, and I could hear her stomach growling from where I sat.
"Have you eaten?" I questioned her, watching her face for any sign she might be lying. When she shook her head, her stomach betrayed her with another groan. "Don't lie to me," I insisted.
"She needs to lose a few pounds. Who cares," Connie scoffed nastily, grabbing the girl's arm and pulling her toward the dressing room.
"This is going to be our Luna?" Rolo asked as anger flared within me at Conn
