Tuesday had arrived, the big day of the transplant. I was arriving at the hospital when I felt someone touch my arm. I turned a bit startled, but relaxed upon seeing that it was Bianca. Since our mother's death, our contact had been strictly professional, distancing our hearts more and more.
"Hi..." she said. Bianca looked thinner and was wearing a tracksuit from our brand. Her hair was tied in a ponytail, and she held little Íris in her arms.
"Hi, everything okay?" I asked, already melting at the cuteness of my niece. As soon as she focused her attention on me, she stretched her little arms and came into my arms, laying her head on my shoulder. "Oh, my love, how I've missed you... sorry, auntie is very busy."
I played with her, and Bianca smiled awkwardly. I turned my attention back to her, and the silence became awkward.
