After Aiden retrieved the newly delivered books he claimed he had forgotten, he returned to the shelf where we were stacking, at the far end of the bookstore. I noticed that his energy had changed somewhat after that. Perhaps he didn’t want to talk about what had happened, so I didn’t ask him about it.

He didn’t say much, and I wondered if he deliberately chose to stack books on another shelf to avoid me so I wouldn’t chat with him. When I finished stacking the remaining books from the box beside me, I approached the butler who had come to fetch me.
