“I really didn’t have a problem…” I laughed, trying to downplay things as I denied Tate’s assumption. I let out another chuckle, hoping to lighten the mood. He had this serious look on his face, like he was genuinely concerned, and I could tell he wasn’t going to drop it. It seemed like he really wanted to dig deeper, to figure out what was bothering me, and I could see that he was willing to do whatever it took to help or at least ease the burden.
Tate shook his head quickly, his eyebrows furrowing, and he clicked his tongue in disapproval. His eyes narrowed at me, almost in playful frustration, and he dramatically rolled his eyes.
“You could’ve just said you didn’t want to talk about your problem…” He shook his head again, his lips pressing into a thin line, and he clicked his tongue once more for emphasis. “Instead, you lie? It was so obvious this morning…” He pouted slightly, crossing his arms, like a kid catching me in the act.
