I could see the confusion on the police officer’s face—the bewilderment, the sheer disbelief—at why a young child like me was standing in the precinct, speaking with the authority of an adult, demanding to find someone.
“What’s your business with her, kid? What do you need from Anessa Policarpio, and why are you looking for her? Is she your mother? Are you lost, son?” The officer fired off questions one after another, his brow arching as he tilted his head slightly, his tone gentle yet probing, as if he was trying to coax me into answering truthfully.
Well, I couldn’t blame him. After all, I was just a seven-year-old kid. I couldn’t exactly tell him that I remembered two past lives and that, technically, I was already 142 years old. If I did, he probably wouldn’t help me find Anessa—and worse, he might think I was insane.
“I need to see her… because… because…”
