Chapter 40. Meeting at the Rooftop

Elena POV

I push Alessandro away from me but he doesn’t look good. Instead he drags me to the far end of the room, pinning me against the cold wall again.

“Let me go” I beg with my eyes since his hand is still over my mouth.

He opens his mouth to speak but is interrupted.

A knock pounds at a door close to the room I am in. Gianna’s voice follows it immediately.

“Elena! Are you in there?!”

Alessandro turns toward the sound instinctively, his grip loosening just enough for his hand to leave my mouth. My gaze follows his movement… and freezes when his hand drifts to his belt.

Oh, God. Is that…?

A gun.

I grab his arm without thinking. “Stop. Don’t do anything stupid. It’s just my friends.”

Another knock.

“Open up or I’m breaking it down!” Valentina yells now.

Alessandro exhales heavily, like he’s forcing himself to calm down.

“We need to talk. Really talk. Tonight. The rooftop of the library building. N
