Chapter 53
"That's not true." He said quietly. "Things were different back then."
"Of course they were. Look at you now, acting all romantic and stuff."
"That's because I want us to work. Am I the bad guy?"
"You said it yourself. We don't love each other. In fact, we don't even need to."
"I'm not asking you to fall in love with me. I'm telling you that I'm trying to make this marriage work."
"That's fine. I'm not stopping you."
"You say one thing but your actions say another."
"I know."
"What are you even trying to say?"
"I'm tired, leave me alone. Since you're turning me down." She walked past him, intentionally bumping her shoulder with him. She walked into her bathroom and turned on the shower.
Outside, she heard the door shut, signaling his departure. She turned off the shower and left the bathroom. She sat on her bed, staring at the bouquet of roses.
