Ezra’s POV
Alex’s living room was quiet again, but I could feel the tension, like my best friend had just handed me a grenade and was waiting to see what I would do with it.

Of all people, it had to be Emily.
I leaned back against the couch, beer bottle dangling loosely between my fingers, and tried to keep my face neutral.
Because I did understand him. More than he could possibly imagine.
But if I said that out loud? If I admitted why I understood?

I glanced at Alex, sitting across from me with his whiskey, his jaw tight, his eyes stormy. He looked more wrecked than I’d seen him in years.
