Chapter 34. Arrivals (5)

I watch him place her inside the incubator, handling her carefully before closing it and taking her away.

My eyes, like JaeMin's, follow her, but only until he disappears through the door.

I search for the same bench as before and feel the need to sit there. I take a deep breath, trying to calm my heart, but I hear JaeMin's sweet and calm voice asking me to calm down.

"She will be fine," he says. "I can feel it."

"Okay," I say, nodding quickly, reaching out to touch JaeMin's hair, trying to find peace within myself.

And amazingly, I simply find it.

"We're almost done here," Dr. Kim says.

"We'll go back to the room. I'll recover, but I'll keep fighting for her. I know you'll be with me, so everything will be alright."

"It will be," I assure him.

He smiles, briefly closing his eyes as if he's tired, which he probably is.
