Ronan's POV

Gideon spent the first hour after becoming the active founder heir trying to persuade everyone that this was useful.

Mara spent the same hour refusing to let him leave the room alone.

"I am not a prisoner," he said.

"Correct. Prisoners get quieter accommodations."

"Severin needs me now. That means he will contact me."

"It also means he may cut you open in another doorway."

Gideon looked at the bandage around his palm. "That happened once."

"A comforting statistical sample."

I stayed by the window and let them argue because Mara was right and Gideon knew it.

Eventually Tamsin assigned two guards to him under the pol
