Ironwood asked me to come back three weeks later.
Not as Luna. That was why I agreed.
The oath hall looked smaller than I remembered.
For twelve years, I had measured my life against that room: the dais where Gideon sat, the carved Alpha chair, the long stone floor where the pack gathered below him.
The first time I left it after the public severing, I had been bleeding, humiliated, and convinced that losing the title meant losing the life I had built.
Now the Alpha chair was gone.
Someone had removed it entirely.
In its place stood a long table with nine ordinary chairs.
